TIP #5 PACK AN EVACUATION GO BAG

In an emergency, you may need to evacuate your home.  You might want to pack some additional personal items in a grab-and-go bag. If you have many people in your household consider using a backpack for each person in your family.  That way, your kit will be more portable and each person can personalize his or her own grab-and-go emergency kit. 

The following is a list of items to consider to include in your evacuation bag:

  • Clothes, shoes
  • Sleeping bags or blankets
  • Personal items (soap, toothpaste, shampoo, comb, other toiletries)
  • Playing cards, travel games, other activities for children

 

 

 
Make copies of important documents (insurance, main identification documents like driver's license and passport, birth and marriage certificates, wills). Keep these with your plan in a safe place. Consider sharing copies with out-of-town family members or keep a set in a safety deposit box.

 Prepare a Packet of important documents

  • Family Records (birth, marriage, death certificates, driver's license etc.) in a waterproof pocket. Consider scanning and saving documents on a flash drive.
  • Wills, insurance policies, contracts, deeds, stocks and bonds
  • Passport, social insurance cards, health cards, immunization records
  • Bank account numbers
  • Credit card account numbers and companies
  • Inventory of valuable household goods, important telephone numbers
  • Medic alert bracelet
